Karen Tran & Ink Gin: Catered Cocktails

Karen Tran is in Brisbane this week for a whirlwind tour to launch her 2-day Floral Masterclass with a select and lucky few.

Karen is one of the world’s premier wedding and event planners and her trademark floral design is sought after by the likes of the Kardashians, and her work has been featured in a plethora of leading Bridal magazines.

We were asked along to Karen’s Brisbane media launch at the Sofitel Brisbane Central to create some bespoke floral inspired cocktails using our floral infused gin. It seemed a match made in heaven and an opportunity too good to miss!

In amongst the glorious floristry and delicate chocolate statues, we served up two craft cocktails – Elderflower Collins, and Strawberry Lemonade. The second was a collaboration with Ged’s Homemade Lemonade, made absolutely fresh in Burleigh Heads using local strawberries and lemons. The all natural lemonade married deliciously with our naturally coloured Ink Gin and elevated the cocktail to a cut above.

Both cocktails went down a treat and were in perfect keeping with the event. Both are also really easy to recreate – try them yourself using the recipes below.

Elderflower Collins

  • 30ml Ink Gin
  • 15ml fresh lemon juice, strained
  • 10ml sugar syrup
  • 5ml elderflower syrup
  • soda water

In a cocktail shaker, mix gin, lemon juice and syrups and shake over ice. Pour into an ice-filled Collins glass, top with soda water and garnish with a flower to produce a layered Collins. Serve with a straw and stir before sipping. Refreshing!

The Elderflower Collins was beautiful, with the soda water sitting on top of the cocktail underneath. Don’t forget to mix the layer through before drinking.

Strawberry Lemonade

Pour over ice. Garnish with a flower or lemon. How easy can it be!

Because we were catering for around 20 people, we made up several pitchers of lemonade before the guests arrived, then poured the lemonade over ice and garnished with a flower before serving.
